Think Adam Sandler was goofy in The Waterboy and
The Wedding Singer? Imagine what he'll be like as a cartoon.
That's because the Saturday Night Live comedian turned
unlikely Big Movie Star is set to produce and voice an animated feature based
his own charmed New Hampshire-native self, his publicist confirms.
The erstwhile Bobby Boucher will team with partner Jack
Giarraputo to produce the toon for Sony's Columbia Pictures, and will supply
the voice of its lead character--that is, him.
Sony--up until now reluctant to break into the competitive
feature animation market--would like to start production sooner than later.
(A screenplay hasn't even been written for the thing yet, and these cartoon
projects tend to take awhile.)
The studio's banking on the red-hot comedian to help them
break Disney's stronghold on feature animation. Columbia is hyping its current
project with Sandler, Big Daddy, as its big summer film.
"After our wonderful experience working with Adam on Big
Daddy, everyone at Columbia is excited to be part of this new venture,"
Columbia president Amy Pascal oozes in a statement.
As for the Happy Gilmore star, he and his red-hooded
sweatshirt are already quite busy this year. He's reportedly booked for the
comedy Little Nicky, which he cowrote, and another as-of-yet untitled
pic, both for New Line.
And contrary to widely published rumor, Sandler's publicist
told E! Online Tuesday her client is not engaged to model Jackie Titone.
